As you were so good as to say that you wd. readily furnish us with any Information w'h.s'd. come within your knowledge in your neighbourhood I trouble you with a query relating to the two ancient pillars which are Sketched above - my brother observed them in his ride from Lyme to Taxall not far from Lyme Park and we shall be much obliged to you if you c'd. favour us with a more particular description of the spot 'that is the name of the place and' township in which they stand; and what name they are known by to the country people. P.S. I find that Taxall was sold in 1691 by Reginald Downes Esq & his son Edmund to the family of Shalcross - the family of Jownes then removed from Taxall, but to what part of the Kingdom we have not been able to discover.
