TitleReturns of Parochial Statistics
Date1902-1938
DescriptionThese summaries were made at the instance of the Convocations of Canterbury and York and under the sanction of the archbishop and bishops to provide an authoritative record of church work and finance for general use within the church. In 1921 the responsibility for collecting and compiling these statistics was taken over by the staff of the National Assembly of the Church of England. Annual forms were completed by the Parochial Church Council and the Incumbent and returned to the rural dean for transmission to the National Assembly. That body compiled the bound volume and returned it to the bishop. Information contained therein was included in the annual diocesan handbooks (EDA 15). The summaries give statistics for each parish under the following headings: baptised, confirmed, communicants, church accommodation, holy communion, other services, schools, bible classes, lay help, income, parsonage house, insurance, parochial church council, voluntary contributions (under various sub-headings).
Volumes for Diocese of Chester cover 1918-1938.
Also one annual volume of statistics: archdeaconry of Macclesfield 1902-1903
