Administrative HistoryNorthwich Urban District Council was established in 1894 when the single parish of Northwich was created from Northwich, Witton cum Twambrooks, Castle Northwich, and parts of Hartford, Winnington and Leftwich. The district was divided into three wards until 1936 when the boundary was extended to include parts of Barnton, Lostock Gralam, Rudheath, Winnington and Leftwich, and it was further divided to form four wards. In 1974, it amalgamated with the neighbouring urban and rural district councils to form Vale Royal District Council, which later was granted Borough status. [See: LDV list for post 1974 records].
