TitleDee Bridge Committees and Dee Bridge Commissioners
Date1818-1864
DescriptionBetween 1818 and 1824, several committees were appointed by public meetings in Chester to consider building a new bridge across the river Dee, to widen the existing Dee Bridge and to improve approach roads. Commissioners were appointed by an Act of 1825 (CLA/12) to oversee these projects. The Grosvenor Bridge was built to the design of the architect, Thomas Harrison (1744-1829) and was opened in 1832. After the Chester Improvement Act, 1884 (CLA/36), both bridges became the responsibility of Chester Corporation. Records of the committees consist of minute books; letters; and parliamentary Bills. The commissioners' records consist of minute books; letters and papers; plans; and estimates.
