DescriptionThe Cheshire Yeomanry, under the command of Sir John Fleming Leicester, was formed in early 1797. This was as a result of a meeting in Northwich held by the 5th Earl of Stamford, Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire in Nov 1796, which called for offers of service from gentlemen willing to take commissions in a county regiment of light cavalry.
