Description | Sir Francis Leicester, afraid that Sir John Byrne (his son in law and heir) would try to take his family to Ireland, insisted that he change his name to Leicester and put a clause in his will that neither John nor his heirs would benefit from his estates until the Irish Estates had been sold, and that this should be done within four years of his death. Sir John Byrne died in 1742, before he succeeded Sir Francis Leicester, who died later in 1742. His son, Peter, was still a minor, but his guardians managed to push a bill through parliament to extend the 4 years until 1755. |
