Administrative History | The school was first known as the Hastings Foundation and operated at 100 Watergate Street, Chester. It moved to its present location along the City Walls Road in 1883, on the site of the City Gaol. The site was given to the school by the Duke of Westminster, under the patronage of Queen Victoria. The Hastings Wing and the New Wing (including chemistry and science rooms) were added in 1903 and 1912, and a playing field was gifted by Mrs L. P. Brown in 1923, who also gifted Nedham House in 1948, which became the home of the Junior School. In 1932 the Preparatory Department moved to 7 Stanley Place. Further additions were made such as an art room and the first library (1936), a kitchen wing (1950), domestic science room and second library (1953), gymnasium and flower garden (1956), science building (1963), swimming pool (1969), and new science block (1980s). Curzon Park playing field was purchased in 1953 and numbers 8, 10, and 12 Stanley Place in 1959. Mrs L. P. Brown later gifted numbers 3, 5, and 7 Stanley Place in 1961. |
