Description | These contain a record of the cases tried in the pentice court. Entries relating to pleas and plaints contain notes of the procedural stages in each action and give such details as names of parties and the nature of the action with names of pledges and the plaintiff's attorney; also the date of the defendant's appearance. Further information might include the defendant making a confession of the debt. Early volumes also contain orders for the removal of cases to the portmote court; tolls collected on horses sold at markets and fairs (see also SBT); and valuations. A separate volume would have been kept for each year. Most survive and were repaired and rebound in the 1930s, but conservation work is still required. 18/04/2024 3 volumes with very damaged contents inspected (archivist/conservator) at Town Hall.
