Description1. List of officers and panel. John Hanky, Mayor.
2. Indictment that John Wildon of Chester, yeoman, Margaret Wildon, wife of the said John, spinster, Ellen Wildon of Chester, spinster, Margery Wright of Chester, spinster and William Danold of Danold of Chester, yeoman, together with other unknown persons, on 26 Oct. 1571, at Chester forcibly disseised Thomas Smith of a messuage, garden and appurtenances in Chester, and that he had been kept out of this property from the 26 Oct. until the time of this indictment, contrary to the statute of 8 Henry VI [1429-30].

Examination of Thomas ?Mow... from Hyngygam Castle 'beyonde London' concerning the theft of a purse. States that since coming to Chester he has lodged in turn with John Geste and Thomas Maykyns, shoemaker, and worked with Ralph Peres, a wever, that he came to Chester en route for Ireland to visit a brother, but learning that his brother was dead, intended to return home, that he did not know the woman whose purse had been stolen the previous night and did not possess aknife. He admitted that he had tried to get into the Mayor's House at the 'tyme of the maske' but only to see 'a Ryall won or loste'. Stated that he knew one Wright living in a house in Foregate Street, where one Franckly lately dwelled, that he knew him three years since when he was in 'Lord Burgeynys service', and that Wright came to see him at Ralph Peres.

20. Indictment that David Jones of York, yeoman, 23 June 1571 in Chester cut a purse worth 1d. belonging to Hugh Thorneley of Eccleston, Cheshire, yeoman, containing 20d., a key worth 2d., and a ?grater 'unum le grater' worth 1d.

21. Indictment that Gwen Hiven ap David of Treivin, co. Flint, ....[illegible] day of June 1571 at Chester broke into the [illegible] of Thomas Bellin of Chester, alderman, and stole [illegible] felt hats, the price of each being 3s., belonging to the said Thomas Bellin.

Indictment that William Barton of Chester, haberdasher, Richard Morgan of the same, tailor, and William Loy of the same, tailor, on 19 Sept. 1571 in Chester about the eleventh hour at night broke into the shop of Robert Wright of Chester, ironmonger, and stole 11 yards of velvet, price 17s. 6d. per yard; 2 pieces of linen cloth called ?'mucade', the price of each piece being 16s; one piece of linen cloth called ?Rede canvas worth 8s. 6d., 3 hats called felts, the price of each one being 2s. 10d.; 11½ yards of linen cloth called 'fustian in naples the price of each yard being 3s; 12 yards of linen cloth called 'Redd Ieine fustian' worth 12s., all belonging to the said Robert Wright.

Examination of Gwen Hiven ap David of Treyven, co. Flint, concerning the theft of a hat on fair day. Stated that she came to the city about 1 pm; on the afternoon before the fair in order to sell some lacies and other trifells' at the fair, and on the fair day went into a shop where she 'cheped A peny worth of tryacle and A peny worth of oyntemt but bought none', but denied touching any hat.

Examination of Griffith Tudder concerning the theft of a Jerkin in the shop of John Cowper and a child's white petticoat belonging to the wife of Thomas Janson. John Howton, butcher, also stated that the said Griffith stole a piece of beef, which Richard Bryne, butcher, and his wife claimed to have been stolen from them.
