Administrative HistoryCheshire Q.M. was established in 1668, and in 1783 united with Staffordshire Q.M. to form Cheshire and Staffordshire Q.M. This meeting continued until 1854, when Cheshire and Staffordshire were separated, and Cheshire united with Lancashire to form Lancashire and Cheshire Q.M. The Society of Friends, or Quakers, was established in Cheshire by 1668. The Society is organised in a hierarchy of meetings: Preparative Meetings are grouped into Monthly Meetings, which are in turn grouped into Quarterly Meetings, and finally, at national level, there is the Yearly Meeting. Records comprise minutes of meetings (M), membership records including registers of births, marriages and burials (R), 'sufferings' - the record of fines and punishment imposed on members for refusal to pay tithes, swear oaths etc - and financial and administrative records (V).
