DescriptionLease from Mayor and Citizens of Chester to James Maddock of Chester, chandler, reciting that whereas on 1 May 1818 the Assembly ordered that materials of premises opposite the Pied Bull in Northgate Street should be sold and the land let to be built up, and whereas on 21 Oct. 1818 the Assembly approved the lease of the said land to the said James Maddock for the annual rent of £2, and whereas the said James Maddock had built two shops and ware rooms on the said land, and the Assembly on 16 July 1821 ordered an extension of the said lease, the said lease was now granted of that plot of land on the E. side of Northgate Street fronting the Pied Bull and containing in length from N. to S. 44 feet four inches and in depth 19 feet 4 inches, and also those two shops and ware rooms built by the said James Maddock on the said land. To hold from 31 Dec. 1821 for 120 years, if James Maddock aged 8, Thomas Frederick Maddock aged 3, sons of the said James Maddock, and Edward Hodkinson aged 14, son of Edward Hodkinson of Chester, carpenter, so long live, and for a further 21 years, for the annual rent of £2.
