Charles Leivesley was elected Councilman in place of Richard Harrison, now chosen Alderman. It was ordered that Mr. Thomas Chapman, goldsmith, should not keep any fire place in the shop in his holding because of the danger of fire, and upon notice he was to remove the fire place. Upon the Mayor's motion, it was considered that every Alderman now or lately elected, who had not formerly given any plate to the City's use, should pay to the Treasurers 40s. or give plate of better value, and every Councilman should pay to the Treasurers 20s. to be bestowed in plate for the use of the City (William Street, Alderman, who had formerly given plate, excepted.) It was ordered that Mr. Robert Shone should pay the whole fine formerly imposed on him, without abatement. Upon the petition of Samson Shelley, ironmonger, showing that, at a meeting held in the Inner Pentice on 26th August last by his Majesty's Commissioners for regulating Corporations in the County of the City of Chester, by virtue of an Act of Parliament of 8th May, 1661, and by his Majesty's Commission under the Great Seal, the petitioner was appointed Hall Keeper and Clerk of the Common Hall of the City, and asking to be confirmed during good behaviour, it was ordered that he be confirmed paying the accustomed rent and keeping the Common Hall in sufficient repair according to former order and performing all other things which ought to be done. Upon the petition of Robert Moulson, showing that he and his predecessors as Crier of the City had enjoyed yearly as a fee belonging to the office, 40s. from the Sheriffs, but last year the Sheriffs, Mr. Harrison and Mr. Hulton, witheld the same, and asking that they be ordered to pay and that payment be continued in future, it was ordered as desired. The petition of William Brandreth, desiring to be admitted a freeman, was denied. The petition of Gilbert Longshaw, plumber, desiring to be a freeman, was denied. |
