DescriptionINQUISITION POST MORTEM (copy) of Sir Randle Brereton Kt. ---- seised in his demesne as of fee in the Barony of MALPAS, the Manors of MALPAS, SHOCKLACH and WIGLAND, 300 messuages, 10 salt pits, 6 mills, 4 dovecotes, lands etc: in MALPAS, CUDDINGTON, OLDCASTLE, WIGLAND, OVERFULWICH [Higher Wychough], NETHER FULWICH [Lower Wychough], BRADLEY, AGDON [Agden], CHIDLOWE [Chidlow], TUSHINGHAM, MASEFEN [Macefen], HAMPTON, LARKTON, GREAT EDGE, LITTLE EDGE, OVERTON, CHORLETON [Chorlton], BICKERTON, BROXTON, CAWARDEN [Carden], TILSTON, HORTON, BARTON, ALDERSEY, CROOK ALDERSEY, CODDINGTON, CLUTTON, LEY NEWBOLD [Lea Newbold], CHRISLETON [Christleton], SHOCKLACH OVEAT [Shocklach Oviatt], CHURCH SHOCKLACH, CALCOTT [Caldecott], CREW, CHURCHEN HEATH [Churton Heath], ROWTON, WYCHEHALGHE [Wychouch], CHOLMONDELEY, STOCKTON and ACTON, the advowson of the churches of MALPAS and TILSTON and 1 messuage and lands in CHOLLEY [Chowley]; the first mentioned premises being held of Prince Henry and the Earl of Chester in chief by military service (1/8 of a knight's fee) and being of the annual value of £40, and the messuage and lands in Cholley being held of Sir William Brereton and being of the annual value of 5/-; the jurors find that the said Randle Brereton died on 8th May 1611, and that Mary now wife of Sir Richard Egerton is his daughter and heir. With 1614/15, 18. Jan PLEA & TRAVERSE (copy) of Sir William Brereton against the above, by which he claims that Sir William Brereton his father was seised of the whole Barony and 7/8 of the Manor of MALPAS, which descended on his death to the plaintiff as son and heir, and of the advowson of the lower parsonage and the fourth turn of the higher parsonage, and of TILSTON parsonage; and that Sir Randle Brereton held the Manor of SHOCKLACH, a messuage and lands in SHOCKLACH OVYATT, CHURCH SHOCKLACH and WIGLAND, a messuage and lands in EBNALL [Ebnal], a capital messuage called the higher Hall of EDGE and lands in GREAT EDGE, LITTLE EDGE, TILSTON, CARDEN, CHIDLLOWE, OVER & NETHER FULWICH, HAMPTON, BICKERTON, ALDERSEY, WICHHALGE, TUSHINGHAM, MASEFEN, BROXTON and CALCOTT, of the said Sir William Brereton. Sir Richard Egerton confesses the allegation to be true. Paper.
