Administrative HistoryIn England and Wales the River Boards were responsible for land drainage, fisheries and river pollution. In 1963 River Authorities took over the role of the Boards. The Mersey and Weaver Authority took over the powers of Mersey River Board and the Cheshire River Board. The Cheshire River Board had itself taken over the River Weaver Catchment Board in 1935 and the North East Cheshire Rivers Catchment Board in 1948.
