Administrative History | Willaston Institute was built in 1891 at the expense of Duncan Graham of The Lydiate, Willaston, who was the first Chairman of Cheshire County Council. It served as a reading room and recreational facility for the village, and was later supplemented by an adjacent wooden structure known as the War Memorial Hut, erected after World War One. There were, and are, several Trustees, and the Village Society, made up of representatives of the various groups who used the facilities, ran the day to day management.
After World War Two, the hut was replaced by an extension containing a committee room and a new kitchen and toilets. At that point, the Village Society which had run the hall was disbanded, and the management passed to a new management committee, again made up of users of the hall, which was renamed Willaston Memorial Hall. |
