DescriptionMEMORANDUM concerning HALTON Court, outlining the Deputy Steward's case for keeping it in the middle of the fee; describes the following courts belonging to the Honour:- A Court of Pleas for all actions and any sum; a Leet Court held at Halton for the said Honour, Hundred and Fee within a month after Michaelmas; a Leet Court held at Thelwall for the said Fee on Palm Sunday eve, with a Court of Pleas for all personal actions for the whole Fee held on that day; a Court of Pleas for all personal actions within the Fee held at the Fair at Halton on September 8th, and a Court of Pie Powder held at the said Fair. Gives details of fines and amercements and of the Court officers included in the Duke of Lancaster's claim, accounts for the delay of the old privileges pertaining to the Barony and the decline of the business of the Court, describes the opposition aroused by Mr. Lowe's, the deputy steward's, holding the Court in other parts of the Fee on a 3 year trial, but points out why this would improve the business of the Court.
