| Description | MARRIAGE SETTLEMENT (Certified Copy made 1599) prior to the marriage of Ambrose Sparrow, s. & h. of Thomas Sparrow of Bickley, gentleman, and Elizabeth Bickerton, daughter of Magerye Byckerton of Towneley [Townley] widow and George Bickerton of Towneley gentleman deceased, between (1) the said Thomas Sparrow, and (2) Richard Maisterston of Wiche Malbanke [Nantwich], gentleman, Hugh Massie of Norburie [Norbury], gentleman, and the said Margerye Byckerton, whereby (1) above covenants to assure and convey to (2) above within one year from date ----- all his messuages, lands, tenements, rents, reversions, services and other the premises with the appurtenances in BICKLEY, HAUGHTON, and NORBURIE near Cholmundeley, to Uses, viz. that (2) above shall stand seized of one messuage or tenement in HAUGHTON with its lands, tenements hereditaments, etc., now in tenure of Randull Stockton, and also of Said T. Sparrow's moiety or share of another messuage or tenement and its lands, etc., in NORBURIE now in tenure of Richard Wickested, to use for life of said Ambrose Sparrow and after his decease to that of said Elizabeth, and thereafter to that of their lawful issue, and, as to the residue, (2) shall stand seized of the residue of the lands, etc., above mentioned to use of Thomas Sparrow for his life, then to life of Jane his wife, and then to the Use of said Ambrose and his issue. In return for (2) covenant to deliver between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Michaelmas day 1598 to said Thomas Sparrow at the porch of the south side of the parish church of Marbury the sum of £73. 6s. 8d.
