TitlePartnership agreements
Date1853
Administrative HistoryThomas Greenall's brewery in Hardshaw, St Helens, passed to his eldest son, Edward, on his death in 1805. The schedule of property belonging to 'Messieurs Greenall' in the conveyance of Peter Greenall's interests in 1846 (ref DGB 6062/13) refers to the brewery as being acquired in 1817; presumably it was held on lease until that date. In 1835 it passed to Edward's sons, Thomas, Peter and Gilbert. After Peter's death in 1845, the surviving brothers continued to own the business. Thomas's son Edward inherited his father's share in 1848, but in 1853 the existing partnership agreement in G and E Greenall was dissolved and Gilbert became the sole owner. From 1867 to 1871 the owners are described as Gilbert Greenall and others. It appears that they included members of the Whitley family;a deed of partnership including William, Peter and John Whitley was drawn up in 1865; in 1869 William Whitley left the partnership. From 1872 to 1880 the business is described as T and G Greenall
