Description | Quarto volume containing a) notes of judgements by the writer in various legal disputes in Derbyshire 1581-1603; b) accounts of receipts for joisting of cattle at Barton [?Barton-under-Needwood]c1566-1596; c) accounts of rents of lands in Cheshire, including the Manor of Christleton, the Rectory of Neston and lands in Chester, Kelsall, Horton, Hapsford, Rowton, Littleton, Wallasey, Liscard and Poulton 1566-1622; and d) accounts of "Alstonfield" 1572-1584. The accounts note that the rents were received at Swarkeston in Derbyshire from at least 1591 which suggests that the writer is a member of the Harper family, which acquired the Manor of Christleton from the Sneyd family of Keele. According to George Ormerod's History of Cheshire, this occurred in 1617; however the evidence of this book suggests that the Harpers had the Manor very much earlier. Later annotations and scribblings include the name of John Borlase Warren |
