Administrative History | In 1955 the Board of Moral Welfare was registered with the County Council as an adoption society. This enabled the Board to place for adoption the babies of the girls who had been cared for by diocesan workers. The Board of Moral Welfare minute book [EDM 2/1/4] records on 18 Oct 1954 'Mrs Evans reported that the Childrens Dept had asked if the Board of Moral Welfare would become an Adoption Society. There were a number of adoptions being arranged through the third party, and this was not very satisfactory.' There is no indication of who the third party is but a statement that 'our workers know of adopters, and also of babies that were for adoption and could in this respect give valuable help to both parties.' An earlier minute from 1951 shows that a donation of £5 was made to Leicester and Leicestershire Adoption Society 'as they handled all our adoption cases and made no charge for their services'.
In 2001 the Board adopted the title 'Adoption Matters'. In 2007 Adoption Matters merged with Blackburn Diocesan Adoption Agency to form Adoption Matters Northwest.. |
