Description | Records of baptisms, marriages and burials began to be kept by parishes in 1538 but most early ‘combined’ registers begin from 1558 onwards. There may be gaps in the registers during the Civil War and Commonwealth period (1645-1660). Marriages are recorded in pre-printed separate registers from 1754, with their modern format from 1837. Burials and baptisms are recorded in standard separate registers from 1813. Most baptism, marriage and burial records up to 1910 are indexed and available in the Cheshire Collection with Find my Past. This section may also include registers of banns, registers of graves used in the administration of church burial grounds, registers of services, registers of confirmations and communicants. |
