Administrative History | An ancient parish church, originally serving the township of Thurstaston, with parts of Greasby and Irby townships. For later records, see also the parishes of Frankby and Irby.
St Bartholomew is the third church to be built on or near the site. The first is believed to have stood from 1125 to 1820, being replace in 1824. In 1871 this second church was demolished and a new church built nearby, only the Tower of the second church survives to the south west of the present church, which was dedicated in 1886. The whole church is constructed using red sandstone, including the spire. The church comprises a simple rectangular Nave, with three bays of stone vaulting; a sanctuary; a Chancel, separated from the Nave by a stone screen and forms the base of the tower, in which the organ is found. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester, the archdeaconry of Chester, and the deanery of Wirral North. The church is designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building.
St Chad's , Roslin Road Irby, was founded in 1967. It is still open. |
