| Administrative History | Newton by Macclesfield township merged with Mottram St Andrew in 1936. The original proposal, under the Cheshire County Review, had been to merge the parishes of Butley, Prestbury, Mottram St Andrew, Newton and part of Tytherington. Because of the heavy Special Expenses rate of Prestbury and Butley Mottram St Andrew and Newton preferred to be united and separate from Prestbury which amalgamated with Butley and Fallibroome |
