DescriptionThe repair and rebuilding of County and Hundred Bridges and adjacent roads was authorised by the Justices at Quarter Sessions. This series of records consists of a book of copy letters, contracts, plans and a few associated papers; presentments, orders, accounts and other papers survive in the Sessions Books (ref QJB) and Files (ref QJF).
The records below comprise:
County Bridgemaster's letter book 1831-1842;
Contracts, plans and related papers relating to repair and rebuilding of bridges 1708-1881;
Registers of highway diversions and closures, 1782-1967; Road maintenance contracts 1833-1886.
