Administrative HistoryFormed in 1848 out of the Stockport division, including the townships of Dukinfield, Hattersley, Hollingworth, Longdendale, Matley, Mottram and Tintwistle. The division was named Hyde until 1899, when it was renamed Dukinfield to avoid confusion with the Hyde (Borough) division.

The Dukinfield petty sessional division was abolished in 1971 to become part of the North East Cheshire division.
