Description | Under the Public Health Act, 1872, Chester was constituted an urban sanitary authority. In August 1872, the Sanitary Committee recommended that a Public Health Committee should be appointed to implement the provisions of the Act. Under the National Health Service Act, 1946, this committee was reconstituted as the Health Committee in April 1947. Following the National Health Service Reorganisation Act, 1973, personal health services were transferred to Cheshire County Council. Environmental health remained a city responsibility and an Environmental Health Committee was formed. The records comprise minute books; annual reports of the medical officer of health; and reports on the water supply. |
