Description | Following the Electric Lighting Act, 1882, the Corporation was empowered by the Chester Electric Lighting Order, 1890, to supply electricity within the City. Initially, electric lighting was dealt with by the Watch Committee, but a separate Electric Lighting Committee was approved by the Council in November 1893. From November 1911, it was named the Electricity Committee. The area of electricity supply was extended by special orders of 1923 and 1927. Under the Electricity Act, 1947, the electricity undertaking was transferred to the British Electricity Authority and became part of the Merseyside and North Wales Electricity Board in April 1948. |
