Description | Under the Education Act, 1902, Chester became a local education authority. A special committee, the Provisional Education Committee, was established in January 1903 to prepare a draft scheme for the constitution of an Education Committee under the Act. The Education Committee was appointed in June 1903. The minutes continued to be kept independently of other committees until 1974 when, under the Local Government Act, 1972, Chester City Council ceased to be a local education authority. A full set of Education Committee printed minutes covering 1903-1973 survives in the Cheshire County Council Education School Boards and Districts collection (CED). |
