Description | In January 1863, the Council appointed a Town Hall Committee after the destruction of the Exchange by fire in December 1862. This Committee was responsible for the building of the present Town Hall which was opened in October 1869. In November 1902, the committee absorbed the functions of the Local Government Act and Parliamentary Committee and was renamed the Town Hall and Parliamentary Committee. It was absorbed by the Finance and Policy Committee in June 1968. The records comprise minute books and letters and papers, which include reports, specifications and plans for the new Town Hall. |
