Administrative History | Administrative History Grant from Rev. Samuel Cooper Scott, Vicar of St. John's Parish, 1885. Spital Boughton Burial Ground was closed, together with other burial grounds in Chester, by an order in council of 8 Feb. 1855, which stated that no new burial ground should be opened in the city, or within two miles of its boundary. Spital Burial Ground became derelict, although it was claimed by the Carter Family, and Chester Corporation used their powers under the Chester Improvement Act, 1884, to negotiate the transfer of the burial ground from the custody of the Vicar of St. John's, to Chester Corporation. Part of the burial ground was used for widening Christleton Rd. in 1906 |
