This public house stood on the corner of Upper Northgate St. and Dee Lane later known as Canal St.. opposite the Blue Coat School. It was known successively as the 'Chaise and Horses', between 1801 and 1808 as the Coach and Horses', 'Brown Cow' and 'Wheat Sheaf', reverting to the name 'Brown Cow' before its sale to Chester Corporation in 1882. It was bought under powers bestowed on Chester Corporation by the Public Health Act, 1875, in pursuance of a scheme to widen and improve Canal St., and the 'Brown Cow' was later demolished
