The land on which Nos. 2, 4, 6 and 8 Dee Lane were erected was part of a field known as 'Barrel Croft', Boughton, until 1822 part of the lands of Macclesfield Free Grammar School.
The premises were acquired by Chester Corporation in 1889 under powers conferred on the Corporation for street improvements, by the Chester Improvement Act, 1845
