Title'The Fleece' Public House, Northgate Street

DescriptionPurchased from Samuel Peacock, gentleman, 1865.
This public house stood on the west side of Northgate Street, behind and opposite to the Exchange which was burnt down in 1862. It was known successively as the 'White Lion', 'Red Lion', 'Golden Fleece', 'Stag's Head' and finally as 'The Fleece'. It was bought by the Corporation because it stood on the site of the Town Hall, erected in 1865-1869
