Administrative History | Purchased from John Jones Cunnah, John Sheriff Roberts and Frederick Warmsley in 1896. This land formed part of the site of the old Blossoms Hotel rebuilt by Peter Leadbetter between 1750 and 1776 to accommodate the increasing coaching traffic of the period. By 1896, much of Leadbetter's structure had evidently been demolished and the remainder was also pulled down at this time for the purpose of erecting a new hotel, bank and other buildings. The Corporation took advantage of this clearance of the site to enter into an agreement for widening Foregate Street and St. John's Street. The present Blossoms Hotel was opened in May 1898 |
