Purchased from Henry Faulkner Brown in 1930.
This property was built c.1860 as a Wesleyan Methodist Weekday and Sabbath School, opposite the St. John Street Methodist Church. In 1911 the property was purchased by Henry Faulkner Brown, after which it was converted into auction sales rooms and office premises for Brown and Co. The Corporation acquired it in 1930 for the purpose of extending the adjacent Public Library
