Attempts by the Mayor etc. of Chester to make Gloverstone and its inhabitants liable to all charges and taxes as part of City of Chester. Imprisonment of John Hannay and other tenants for non-payment; distraint of goods brought into the City by inhabitants of Gloverstone in time of open fairs and markets; attempts to make them pay tolls and stallage for their goods sold in open fairs and markets. Rigby to Thomas Throppe, esq., Mayor of Chester, William Edwards, Edward Bradshawe, Owen Hughes and Thomas Wrighte, gents., that the Earl of Derby has appointed that the reference shall be heard before him and the Judges upon Tuesday in the next Assize week to be held for the County of Chester. Upon a petition preferred by Rigby to the Privy Council on behalf of G. Ireland, the rivy Council had enlarged the reference to the Earl of Derby and Judges of Assize concerning the liberty of Gloverstone which was obtained by the Mayor etc. 1f |
