Administrative History | In 1705, part of the Chester to Whitchurch Road, between Barnhill and Hatton, was turnpiked. An Act of 1759 established a turnpike trust for the road from Boughton in Chester to Whitchurch, Shropshire and beyond. The trust was empowered to charge tolls for the upkeep of the road. The trustees lost their powers within the boundaries of the city of Chester after the Chester Improvement Act, 1845 (CLA/19). In 1871, the trust amalgamated with the Chester, Farndon and Worthenbury Turnpike Trust. On 1 November 1877, the combined trust expired. |
