The duties are grouped under the officials in turn. The Murengers collect sums levied on the actual comodities; the Sheriffs, sums levied on certain commodities, (ZA/B/1/41v) and also a set sum on every boat entering or leaving the port, and goods going in or out by horseback (at certain times of the year they collect double custom); the Recorder, a fee of 1d. on the entry of every ship or merchant, and on certain goods; (ZA/B/1/42) the Leevelookers, sums charged on the actual sale of the commodities.
Also surveyed are the rates to be charged by boats and lighters bringing goods up river from the Red Bank Heswall, Denwall, Burton Head and Shotwick (ZA/B/1/42v) (with certain loading regulations to be observed); by carters bringing goods from the Port Pool or the Watergate, or from place to place within the City; and by porters for loading and unloading carts and carrying the goods into the cellars.
