Description | The answer of the Mayor to the information laid against him concerning the election of Aldermen, is recapitulated. However, contrary to the resolution then (April 1st.) made, that suit should be made to Leicester, certain persons (John Harvy, Alderman, Richard Massy, Robert Brock, Thomas Lynyall, Thomas Burges, Thomas Fletcher, Roger Bryne, Anthony Hanky and others) have signed a counter-petition, asking that the terms of the Charter (election by Mayor and Citizens) be literally enforced. They are considered worthy of disfranchisement, but are given till the next Assembly to submit and explain themselves. The order is signed for or on behalf of forty seven persons. |
