TitlePreparations for arrival of soldiers; Earl of Essex visit

DescriptionFeb. 15th. On receipt of letters from the Privy Council, giving warning of the arrival of large numbers of soldiers in transit for Ireland, with instructions to feed and pay them, assessors are appointed to raise a rate sufficient to meet the costs, until the money can be refunded by the Government. Thomas Lynyall is appointed to organise the feeding of the soldiers.
March 1st. A banquet to be prepared, under the supervision of David Lloid and William Aldersay, for the Earl of Essex, who will be visiting Chester on his way to Ireland; a silver cup and gold angels are to be presented.
(ZA/B/1/256v). Persons are appointed to arrange for the accommodation of the soldiers, and to see to their embarkation, (from Liverpool, Wallasey, Burton Head and elsewhere).
