TitleAlmsmen; petitions; gift to Member of Parliament of the City
Date16th Jan 1666[/7]
DescriptionRandle Richardson, beerbrewer, chosen one of Vernon's almsmen in the place of William Seale the elder, butcher, deceased.
The Mayor informed the house that he intended very shortly to take a journey to London and asked whether he might be serviceable to the City. It was decided that a petition should be preferred to the King and Council asking that thereafter every Mayor of the City might be empowered to act jointly with the Earl of Derby as His Majesty's Lieutenant for ordering the forces in the City, as had formerly been the custom.
It was ordered that £30 should be presented to Mr Ratcliffe, Member of Parliament for the City, as a free gift in thankfulness for his care and his charges there.
