TitleLand in Tattenhall; Owen Jones's money; relocation of flax, yarn and linencloth market; leases; petition
Date2nd Jun, 1668
DescriptionA tenement or parcel of land in Tattenhall had been bought from Peter Egerton of Boughton, gentleman, and Mary his wife, in the name of William Ince, Randle Oulton and Thomas Willcock, Aldermen, with money bequeathed by Owen Jones, and as trustees for his charity. It was ordered that these trustees might convey the said property to Edward Bradshaw of Chester, esq., his heirs and assigns for ever, that they should be indemnified for so doing, and that a covenant should be sealed with the City seal for their warranty therein.
The security proposed for the £250 of Owen Jones's money, namely Peter Stanley of Alderley, co. Chester, esq., Francis Orrill of Chorley, co. Chester, gentleman, Thomas Ball of Stretton, co. Chester, yeoman, John Dodd of Grafton, co. Chester, yeoman, and Benjamin Critchley of the City of Chester, draper, was approved. The Mayor and Sheriffs had undertaken that the money should be repaid whenever it was reasonably demanded.
(ZA/B/2/162) It was ordered that the flax, yarn and linen-cloth market should be removed to the row in Watergate street from Mrs Johnson's house downwards towards the Watergate, the place where it was heretofore held.
Richard Minshull, Alderman, asked for a lease of Thimblebees tower for three lives and twenty-one years. It was ordered that the Treasurers should treat with him for this.
It was agreed that John Anderson, merchant, should have a lease for three lives and twenty-one years of a parcel of waste ground, 40ft. by 12ft., against his house and under the Bishop's garden house window, where he wished to build. The Treasurers had agreed with him for £5 fine and 1s. yearly rent.
The petition of David Edwards, carpenter, desiring admission to the freedom was not granted.
