TitleSuits in the Pentice Court against John Francis for discharge of persons from prison; fine
Date16 Jan 1649
DescriptionThe Sheriffs had lately received several writs of privilege for the stay of several suits in the Pentice Court against John Francis and others, and for the discharge of their persons from prison. The writs appeared to be contrary to the charters of the City and to the final orders made for ending controversies between the City and the Court of Exchequer. It was therefore ordered that if the officers of the Court of Exchequer prosecuted the writs the Sheriffs should be saved harmless by the City, and the cause defended at the City's charge.
(ZA/B/2/89v). The fine imposed on Robert Harvie, Alderman, was remitted, since he had submitted to the house.
