Description | William Wright, draper, elected Alderman in place of John Whittle, Alderman, deceased, and Thomas Hand Councilman in place of William Wright. It was an ancient custom, though neglected of late years, that every foreigner buying beasts in the City should pay a toll of 1d. for every beast. The petition of Randle Richardson, Macebearer, that he might be Collector of this toll was, therefore, granted. He should render account to the Mayor when required. It was ordered that Ralph Leigh and Thomas Lowe, bakers, should pay the penalties imposed on those who kept great stacks of gorze in their backsides. It was ordered that the heirs of Mr. William Gamull, Alderman, deceased, should be sent unto concerning the repair of Wolfe's Tower and the house over the Newgate, and to know whether they would pay the arrears of rent due. |
