The third item states that whereas on 13th June last it was ordered that £60 should be paid to Mr. John Wickens, then intended to have been head Schoolmaster of the Free School, by quarterly payments, Mr. Wickens having declined the employment, it was ordered that the £60 be offered to Mr. Rothericke if he would accept the place. There is a marginal note: 'this order needs not to bee entred in reguard Mr. Rotherick within named will not accept the imployment.' 15th January 1656. Note of proceedings at a meeting in the Inner Pentice of the Mayor and Justices of the Peace and others of the Assembly. It was agreed that the Clerk of the Pentice should search for precedents for entering Customs in the Pentice office, and that an order should be made for the officers of the Custom house not to enter any foods until they have first been entered in the Pentice office. |
