Description | Petition of Gerard Jones, Alderman, William Jones, linen draper, and William Hewitt, ironmonger, stating that it was customary for every freeman to repair the pavement in the street before his house and receive the benefit of the street in fair times for stallages. The Beast market is kept at fairs and every market day before their houses Handle Richardson, macebearer, received the toll of the same market to his own use. They think it reasonable, therefore, that he should be at the charge of cleansing the street but he refuses. They ask relief. Note: referred to Mr. Maior in the Pentice to inform himself what hath heretofore been done in the like Case.' |
