Description | Petition of the Aldermen, Stewards and Companies of Clothworkers and Weavers within the City of Chester, that 'tyme out of mynde' there had been an ancient market in the city for the sale of all manner of woollen cloths and they might, without interruption, sell the cloth they had made on the market day by retail, or otherwise, but the Wardens of the Company of Drapers in market time take from poor persons the cloth they have made 'in a forceable manner' so that many no longer come to the market. Note: that the petition is referred to the Mayor and Justices of the Peace in the Pentice and a report is to be made to the next Assembly. |
