DescriptionPetition of the Aldermen, Stewards and Companies of Clothworkers and Weavers, complaining that, contrary to the liberties of the Mayor and citizens and the laws of the land, the Wardens of the Company of Drapers, for gain and lucre, at market time take from several poor persons their cloth, made by them and brought to the market for sale, so that many persons have ceased to frequent the market. They ask that all persons resorting to the City may have liberty on market day to make sale of all manner of woollen cloths of their own making. Note of voting. It was agreed that the market be continued according to ancient custom.
