Description | Petition of Richard Brett, merchant, stating that he had his education as a merchant with Alderman William Gamull. When he dealt himself as a merchant he sustained great losses by sea. When the City was besieged, he appeared on all occasions for its defence and was shot through the thigh. He suffered for his loyalty to the King. He asks to be confirmed in place of Samson Shelley, deceased, as Keeper and Clerk of the Common Hall. |
