Description | Petition of John Hadley, engineer, to the Mayor and Council. He desires to erect, at his own costs, a work for conveying fresh water in pipes through the streets of the City, similar to the water-work which he has recently erected at Worcester. He has purchased the interests of the proprietors of the old discontinued water-works but, since, therefore, he claims under the old grant of the Mayor and Citizens to one Tyrer, he may be liable to arrears in the reserved rent of 5s. a year and also to other disadvantages. He prays that, for a yearly rent of 6s. 8d. and reasonable covenants, they will convey to him all their interest in the old waterworks and the privileges heretofore granted to Tyrer. He asks for liberty to erect and to enjoy for himself and his heirs, a convenient place in the Northgate Street, against the Abbey court, over the ground already approved and marked out by the Treasurers, on which to fix his cistern, which is to be erected upon pillars 9 feet high from the ground so that the lower part may serve for a Market House. Note of order that the petition be granted. |
